Plugin Updates – Better WP Security, Theme-Check and WP Content Copy Protection

Keep On Top of Security Plugins Updates

Make sure you are keeping track of hte plugins you use and what potential issues might arise before you make an upgrade.

Even though upgrading plugins should be a high concern, these three recent updates below may also present several issues. Make sure you are creating regular backups of your sites and maintaining logs of issues you encounter.

Better WP Security

We love the Better WP Security plugin, but there may be some potential issues that we have for concern going into the new year. We know the guys over at IThemes do wonderful work, but there has been a potential drop off in support for this plugin of late.

A quick check of the Better Wp Security support forum, shows a considerable number of unresolved issues. To their credit, these may have been addressed in the development version of the upcoming 4.0 release. In addition, there is no guarantee issues are specific to this plugin so they may require further testing.

Theme-Check

Even though this plugin is more geared for development, we like to use this to check any theme we consider installing to a WordPress blog. This checks hundreds of potential issues that could be a security risk to your site. While this is not a complete solution to preventing security issues it is a great start. More then often security issues come from insecure themes and plugins. We make it a point to not use any themes that present issues when tested.

The developers are also hard at work fixing any issue they have been finding with this plugin as seen by many resolved issues within the WordPress support section for this plugin.

We are looking forward to continued updates from this plugin and hope to see it updated to account for newer version of WordPress 3.8 and beyond.

WP Content Copy Protection

A plugin that we thoroughly enjoy is the Content Copy Protection. This helps prevent people from grabbing your site content without your permission. While people could still do it manually, this plugin restricts access to the popular copy and paste features and ctrl key shortcuts among other features.

This plugin may have some issues with specific themes, so if you encounter any please let the developers know.
