Plugin Of The Week – 9/9/2016 – Enhanced Publishing By Echoplugins
Enhanced Publishing Features For WordPress Blogs
What kind of enhanced publishing features can you add to an already great publishing platform such as WordPress? Let’s take a look shall we.
As any publisher will know, Content is King. Everyone who runs even the smallest of WordPress sites is always looking for better way to manage and create content. Content is the lifeblood of any website. Without it any website will eventually perish into obscurity.
But WordPress is already a great publishing platform, right? Sure it is, but a relatively new author has made up a plugin that does add some pretty nice features to your WordPress author bag of tricks. Lets take an introductory view at this new plugin.
What Is Enhanced Publishing for WordPress ? In the author’s words:
Enhanced Publishing offers editors, authors and developers a set of features that help them to publish posts and pages quicker and with less frustration.
If you build websites for clients, then you can make it easier for them to find and manage their posts and pages especially for first-time WordPress users.
I create dozens of posts per day for some sites and anything that can make that process easier is generally well received by me. Here are the basics of the plugin:
- Version: 1.1.0
- Author: echoplugins
- Initial Realease: 8-14-2016
- Last Updated: 8-16-2016
- Requires: 3.9+ or higher
- Compatible up to: 4.6
- Average 5-Star Rating: N/A
FEATURE #1: Posts and Pages Lookup
Access your recently modified posts, pages, and custom post types from an easy-to-navigate drop down list located at the top admin bar.
Don’t waste time switching to a list of posts or pages and then searching for your post.
- Access the list anywhere the top admin bar is available
- View the status of your pages at one glance
- Access the list on front end and on all administrative pages
FEATURE #2: Publishing Menu
When editing your post or page further down the screen, easily access the Publish options such as Update or Save as Draft without the need to scroll back to the top. Publish options are accessible wherever you are on the page from the top admin bar.
- Access Publish options from the top admin bar
- Update, Save As Draft or Preview Changes without scrolling to the top
- Keep working in the same place on the page
The author does currently offer a pro version which includes a post clone feature:
PRO FEATURE #1: Duplicate Posts and Pages
Save your time and reduce errors when copying content. Duplicate any post, page or custom post type with a single click. * Accurately duplicate any Post, Page or Custom Post Type * Also copy children pages and custom fields.
At present I would not see the need for this version of the tool until future features were added. This is simply based on the fact that there are several nice post or page clone plugins that are currently freely available, such as:
What Does Enhanced Publishing Actually Mean?
Well, as long as you don’t have your admin bar disabled then this plugin will add a responsive, drop-down menu where recent posts and drafts can be easily accessed without the need to go back and forth to the main post or page screens. This works for any user who has post or editing privileges.
The two main features was enough for me to consider this to be a Plugin of the Week. I think this plugins shows promise and is well thought out. WordPress itself has recently made changes to internal pages in order to make load times faster and to lower the overall level of page transitions. This plugin feels like a nice inclusion to that same overall feel.
The less time it takes to transition from the creation process of one post to another makes the work involved with each post faster. I look forward to seeing what other features could be implemented into this plugin. I wish the author well in his endeavor to create a quality plugin.
